Long Island City is home to one of the most famous film studios in NYC.
Silvercup Studios started in 1983 in the Silvercup bakery facility which later on expanded to an impressive 13 shooting areas on its Main Lot located at 42-22 22nd St, Long Island City, 11101 and 5 studios on its East End Lot which is located at 34-02 Starr Ave., Long Island City, 11101.
Both facilities offer on-site production offices, extensive set, prop and wardrobe storage areas as well as a fully equipped on-site lighting and grip departments.
Some of the more famous productions shot at Silvercup Studios are movies: The Devil Wears Prada, What Happens in Vegas, Uptown Girls, and Sex and the City, as well as television shows: 30 Rock, Gossip Girl and White Collar.
Silvercup is also home to hundreds of commercials and photo shoots every year.
A little further north in Astoria is Kaufman Astoria Studios (KAS) a full-service, turn-key facility, that is equipped to handle every conceivable size, style and type of production whether it be for film, video, commercials, music, sound, or studio photography.
Originally built in 1920 as a production facility close to the Broadway theater district, KAS became famous for being the home of the first two Marx Brothers films, The Cocoanuts and Animal Crackers.
Today it is one of the largest and most sophisticated film and television production centers on the east coast.
A few of the more famous productions from this studio include: Hair, The Wiz, Carlito’s Way, The Cosby Show, Sesame Street, Law and Order, Who’s the Boss and Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego.
